The Front Lines of Violence Prevention

On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

Author and Tulane University Professor of History Walter Isaacson moderated a conversation about community violence and the front lines of preventing violence in communities. The conversation featured James Timpson, Director of Youth Work and Crisis Intervention for Roca Baltimore, Mary Koss, Regents’ Professor at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona, and Daniel Webster, Bloomberg Professor of American Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
