Sanjuana Castorena Mares

Bloomberg Fellow

Sanjuana leads ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® at the Healthy Americas Foundation, overseeing national strategy, partnerships, and implementation. She
ensures the delivery of high-impact services ranging from health screenings to providing free fresh produce to communities across the U.S. The program began in 2006, after a meeting of community leaders from throughout the nation to create a National Hispanic Health Walk made clear that what was needed was a broader initiative promoting physical activity, nutrition, and health. In 2024, the program reached over 19,000 people, conducted 6,000 screenings, distributed 18 tons of fruits and vegetables and partnered with over 400 community partners to bring important resources that ranged from cancer screening to SNAP benefits.

At the Healthy Americas Foundation (HAF), our vision is simple: the best health for all. As a U.S.-based national non-governmental organization, we are dedicated to improving the health of individuals and families in their communities, tailored to the needs and resources at the local level. We work with a wide range of partners and do not accept funding from tobacco, alcohol, or sugar-sweetened beverage companies. Our efforts focus on collaboration with communities, supportive solutions, and international partnerships to promote wellness in body, mind, and spirit while celebrating the role of culture. HAF investments are commitments to uplifting families, ensuring they have the tools and resources to build healthier and more prosperous futures. By doing so, we strengthen the fabric of our nation, recognizing that when families succeed, our collective society thrives.
