Michael Keuler

He/Him

Bloomberg Fellow

Michael Keuler is the Environmental Health Resiliency Coordinator overseeing Marion County Health and Human Services’ first Climate and Health Adaptation Plan. In the past decade, record-setting heatwaves, winter storms, and wildfires have caused environmental destruction and spikes in emergency department visits to his community, especially among those most vulnerable to rising environmental challenges. Through public health and community organizing approaches, Keuler brings collaborating organizations across the social determinants of health together to improve resilience and adaptation. As an incoming Bloomberg Fellow, Keuler is driven to sharpen his leadership and management skills in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation projects that elevate all communities toward enhanced health outcomes despite accelerating climate hazards.

Marion County Health and Human Services’ mission is to provide access to services and build partnerships to advance healthy communities. Through public health, behavioral health, and human services, MCHHS addresses the physical, mental, and social needs of Marion County, Oregon. Behavioral Health provides addiction treatment, mental health services, crisis response, and youth and family support. Human Services promotes stability through housing, case management, and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Public Health focuses on health promotion and prevention through education, immunizations, disease monitoring, emergency preparedness, and health programming. This coordinated approach alongside community partners strengthens access to care and improves the overall health and well-being of the community.
