Micaela (Mica) Root

Mica Root is the Nutrition and Physical Activity Program Manager for the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (Get Healthy Philly) at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. Mica’s work with Get Healthy Philly has included launching a Philadelphia-Beverage-Tax-funded Healthy Schools Initiative, using art to support COVID-19 safety practices, and initiating City-wide policy changes to ensure all Philadelphians have running water in their homes.  

Get Healthy Philly was created in 2010 as an innovative multidisciplinary collaboration of public health, academic institutions, community-based organization, and the private sector with the goal of tackling the underlying risk factors driving the epidemic of chronic disease facing Philadelphia.
