Margo Franz

Margo Franz is the Abortion Access Project Lead and a Public Health Nurse at the Washington State Department of Health, where she launched the state's first Abortion Access Project following the Dobbs decision. Franz has directed more than $35 million in state funding to strengthen abortion care infrastructure, with particular attention to adolescent-friendly access points, workforce development, patient navigation, and clinic security. She co-founded the Administrators of Public Funding for Abortion Access, a national community of practice advancing state-level innovation and evaluation. Franz also served as Board President of Pro-Choice Washington from 2022 to 2025. In 2025, she was named the U.S. Youth Trailblazer at the International Conference on Family Planning for her work advancing adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The Washington State Department of Health is the state's public health agency, working with local, tribal, and national partners to protect and improve the health of Washington's communities. Within DOH, the Sexual and Reproductive Health Program advances equitable access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including contraception, pregnancy testing and options counseling, STI services, and abortion care. As Washington's statewide Title X grantee since the 1970s, SRHP combines federal and state funding to support 12 organizations operating 93 clinic sites that serve approximately 80,000 clients each year. Following the Dobbs decision, SRHP also administers state funding for abortion access across 5 organizations and 34 clinics, sustaining Washington's role as a regional access point and strengthening reproductive health systems for marginalized communities.
