Kobe Thammavongsa is the Nurse Supervisor at Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Detox in Anchorage, Alaska. In this role, he provides direct care to Alaskans undergoing withdrawal from substance and alcohol use, working alongside an integrated team of providers, nurses, and behavioral health staff to deliver patient-centered care. Beyond the bedside, he contributes to clinical protocol development and staff support initiatives. Kobe also mentors nursing students through a program supported by SCF, with a focus on increasing Alaska Native representation in healthcare. In addition to his work at SCF, he serves as a Commissioned Officer in the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service, which supports his public health efforts through community outreach, leadership, and expanding access to care across Alaska.
Southcentral Foundation (SCF) is an Alaska Native-owned nonprofit health care organization based in Anchorage, Alaska. It provides a wide range of services, including primary care, behavioral health, dental, and specialty care, to Alaska Native people in the region. SCF is internationally recognized for its Nuka System of Care, a relationship-based, customer-owned model that places individuals and families at the center of care. The organization emphasizes whole-person wellness, cultural respect, and integrated care teams to support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. SCF continues to lead in innovation through quality improvement, workforce development, and strong community partnerships. In response to growing needs, SCF plans to open an expanded Detox facility in the coming years to increase access to withdrawal management services and support long-term recovery.
