Kimberly Pettigrew

Kimberly Pettigrew is the Director of Healthy Communities at the United Way of Greater Knoxville where she works with broad community partners to collaborate on solutions that build sustainable, resilient, and healthy communities where all neighbors have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Her work includes conducting community food security assessments, creating a foodscape design plan for a public park, launching a healthy food financing program, and diverting more than 30,000 pounds of food waste from a local stadium to be repackaged and redistributed as healthy meals. Prior to working at the United Way, Pettigrew worked in local food systems with a specialization in applied community development. She is the past chair and current staff member for the nation’s first food policy council - the Knoxville-Knox County Food Policy Council.

For more than 100 years, United Way of Greater Knoxville has united people and resources to build strong communities across a five-county region in East Tennessee. Our work focuses on three connected impact areas: Economic Mobility, Early Care and Education, and Healthy Communities. We invest in the local nonprofit sector through strategic, multi-year grantmaking, capacity and partnership-building, equipping organizations to grow and adapt. As a backbone organization, we identify and understand the most pressing needs of our community, then convene nonprofits, businesses, government, and faith communities to develop collaborative solutions that best serve our neighbors in need.
