Julianah Douglas

Julianah was in the 2020 Environmental Challenges Bloomberg American Health Initiative cohort graduating in Spring of 2022. After 7.5 years with the City of Frisco and two promotions, Julianah has started a new position with the City of Salem as their new Climate Action Plan Manager. Julianah’s work at Frisco included building the Sustainability program and the internal Working Group for municipal operations. Her role at the City of Salem will use her skills in grant writing, health communication for behavior change, and analytical skills to help reach aggressive climate goals. In addition to reducing emissions, Salem prioritizes actions with co-benefits of improved public health, environmental quality, local economy, mobility choice, and community equity. 

The City of Salem is Oregon’s capital City and is home to a diverse and involved community. In 2020, the City Council adopted the Greenhouse Gas emissions reduction goals of 50% reduction by 2035 (of 2016 baseline) and carbon neutral city by 2050. To meet these goals, the City of Salem created a Climate Action Plan, which was accepted by city Council in 2022. The Climate Action Plan has 183 strategies to reach emission reduction goals, increase climate resilience, and to increase equity for Salem. The City of Salem is dedicated to improving efficiency and being more resilient to the impacts of climate change which will promote community health.
