Jazarah Shim is the Healthcare Pilots Coordinator at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, D.C., where she supports Food is Medicine programming focused on the connection between nutrition and health. In this role, she helps implement food pharmacies which are pantry programs within healthcare settings for individuals managing diet-related conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. She oversees ordering and delivery logistics, menu development, and nutrition education implementation across five healthcare sites serving more than 5,200 patients annually. Her work reflects her passion for advancing health equity and improving access to nutritious food through community and healthcare partnerships.
The Capital Area Food Bank serves the Washington metropolitan region by providing healthy food and resources to help communities thrive. Through partnerships with more than 400 local nonprofit organizations, CAFB distributes over 60 million meals annually across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Beyond food distribution, CAFB works to address the root causes of hunger by connecting community members with critical resources such as nutrition education, job training, and healthcare support. Through innovative partnerships and programs, CAFB aims to improve food security and quality of life for individuals and families across the D.C. region.
