Caroline Sica (she/her/hers) is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a doctorate in nursing practice. She works for the University of Maryland Medical System at Shore Regional Health on Maryland's Eastern Shore. In her position, Caroline has the privilege of caring for several individuals on the inpatient acute behavioral health unit and the consult service across four area hospitals. She serves as the medical provider for two Intensive Outpatient Programs, which respectively specialize in group psychotherapy and substance use treatment. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked seven years as a bedside nurse in rural Virginia. Caroline developed a deep appreciation and enjoyment in providing evidence-based care in rural areas, which she has been able to carry to her work on the Eastern Shore.

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) comprises 11 hospitals across the state. It provides approximately 25% of all hospital-based care in Maryland, serving as a cornerstone of the state's healthcare network. UMMS operates with a mission grounded in four key principles: delivering compassionate, high-quality care, fostering a deep commitment to the community, driving healthcare transformation, and advancing discovery-based medicine through research and innovation. Within this system, UMMS Shore Regional Health consists of four facilities that serve the Mid-Shore region of Maryland, a geographically distinct area along the Chesapeake Bay. These facilities offer comprehensive medical services, combining advanced technology with expert clinical care tailored to meet the needs of the local population. Shore Regional Health is especially vital in ensuring that residents in rural and coastal communities have access to the same high standards of care as those in urban areas.
