Dr. Bobbie Downs is the Assistant Superintendent of Burlington County Special Services School District in New Jersey. She brings over 15 years of experience focused on trauma-informed practices, student mental health, and restorative approaches. Dr. Downs began her career internationally as a teacher and administrator for Sudanese refugees in Cairo, Egypt, shaping her commitment to compassionate, student-centered education. She holds degrees from Drew University and Rowan University, plus advanced certifications in Autism Education, Mindfulness Instruction, and Restorative Practices. Named the 2024 NJPSA Visionary Director of the Year, Dr. Downs remains dedicated to strengthening school systems through staff development, student programming, and initiatives that support the social and emotional well-being of students and educators.
The Burlington County Special Services School District (BCSSSD), located in Westampton, New Jersey, provides comprehensive educational and therapeutic services to students with diverse needs, ages three to twenty-one. Renowned for its programs supporting students with autism, multiple disabilities, behavioral challenges, and learning differences, BCSSSD offers a continuum of evidence-based services tailored to individual strengths and goals. In addition to its specialized programs, the district operates alternative middle and high school options to support students requiring nontraditional educational approaches. Through a commitment to excellence, innovation, and student-centered practice, BCSSSD empowers each learner to achieve independence, resilience, and meaningful participation in the community.
