Addiction & Overdose

A Winning Idea in West Virginia

December 12, 2018

On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

At the Summit, Vivek Murthy, 19th Surgeon General of the United States, moderated a panel discussion on how the city of Huntington, West Virginia, has been addressing the opioid epidemic. Panelist included Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and Sergeant Paul Hunter of the Huntington Police Department.
