Teaching Youth to Become Advocates of the COVID Vaccine

January 10, 2022

The Voices on Vax program aims to convince families to get vaccinated by working through youth.

The program run by Bloomberg School faculty, including some associated with the Initiative, in partnership with groups including Hip Hop Public Health and HeartSmiles, hopes that if they teach young people about the benefits of the vaccine they will take it home to their families. It also teaches youth how to use their voice.

The latest effort is a hip-hop lyrics contest to draw them to the group’s Instagram and other social media pages. Youth can download a beat from the webpage and then record their lyrics to it. Top prize is one thousand dollars. Deadline to participate is January 14.

Associate Professor Terri Powell talked about the program during a recent interview that ran on WBAL-TV.
