State and City Action to Achieve National Impact on Overdose
December 11, 2018
On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.
At the Summit, Michael Botticelli, Executive Director of the Grayken Center for Addiction at Boston Medical Center and former director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, moderated a panel discussion about actions that state and local governments are taking to address the opioid overdose crisis. Panelists included Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Rhode Island Department of Health Director Nicole Alexander-Scott, and Chinazo Cunningham, Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
