Seeking Adolescent Health Faculty Applicants

The Department of Pediatrics in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health (PFRH) in the Bloomberg School of Public Health are seeking a leader in adolescent health for appointment to the tenure track rank of Full or Associate Professor. This individual will serve as director of the new Division of Adolescent Health in the Department of Pediatrics and member of the Center for Adolescent Health in the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  The Division and Center are committed to assisting youth to become healthy and productive adults. In partnership with schools, local organizations, and health departments, Johns Hopkins Adolescent Health serves adolescents and young adults in the community and beyond and conducts research and develops and evaluates programs to advance the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults.

 

The new director will lead the Division of Adolescent Health in the Department of Pediatrics.  This includes interaction with all divisions in the Department in relation to the adolescent patient.  It also includes oversight of an interdisciplinary team, outpatient clinical services and a consultation program for adolescent patients in the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, curriculum and training of medical students and pediatric residents, the adolescent medicine fellowship and a portfolio of research.  

As a member of the Center for Adolescent Health in the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the faculty member will teach and mentor students, as well as actively participate in Center programs.

It is anticipated that the new director will also help lead the adolescent health focus area of the new Bloomberg American Health Initiative, a role that includes an endowed position.   The Initiative aims to improve health and save lives in the United States by tackling five of America’s most complex health challenges: drug addiction and overdose, obesity, gun violence, environmental challenges, and risks to adolescent health. (http://americanhealth.jhu.edu) This role will involve engaging with students and their home organizations, leading public health practice efforts, and some modest organizational responsibilities. 

 

Applicants must have a medical degree and board certification in adolescent medicine. They should have: a well-established record of exceptional adolescent clinical care, scholarship, teaching and extramurally funded research; demonstrated commitment to improving adolescent health through community collaborative research; strong capacity for multidisciplinary collaboration; excellent teaching and mentoring skills; and, documented productive relationships with university and community partners, program planners and policy makers.
