Environmental Challenges

Returning to the Science in Environmental Health

December 11, 2018

On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

At the Summit, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Professor Tom Burke reunited on stage with Gina McCarthy, Professor of the Practice of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, to discuss the need to return science to the national conversation about environmental challenges. Burke and McCarthy worked together at the Environmental Protection Agency during the Obama Administration.
