Podcast Episode: Which U.S. Gun Laws Save Lives?

April 9, 2018

The debate over how we should regulate guns is raging. Each time our nation experiences a mass shooting — in a school, at a concert, in church — we hear calls for things like universal background checks, assault weapons bans, arming teachers or other policies aimed at stopping the next massacre. But will those proposals have the intended effects? What does the research tell us about what works, and what doesn’t, to prevent gun violence?

In the first episode of the American Health Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Daniel Webster, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, and the first Bloomberg Professor of American Health, to discuss gun policies. We talk about a proposal before Congress to require states to honor concealed carry permits issued in other states, as well as other policies and proposals. Tune in.
