New ERPO Videos Highlight Insights from Washington State

May 19, 2020

Now available on the Implement ERPO website are four new videos about implementing extreme risk protection orders (ERPO) in King County, Washington.

ERPOs continue to be an effective tool of intervention for individuals behaving dangerously and at risk of committing violence in King County; 2019 data showed an increase in threats of self-harm and harm to others, and this trend appears to be continuing in 2020.

These videos provide best practices and insights from King County that can help people implementing ERPO laws across the country. They are:

  • Why is ERPO Important to the State? with Sandra Shanahan, Program Manager, Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit
  • Preparing for ERPO Implementation with Carol Cummings, Chief, Bothell Police Department
  • Working on the Frontlines of Implementation with Rita Hagan, Paralegal, Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit
  • Assisting Family Members Seeking an ERPO with Lorinda Tsai, Firearms Advocate, Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit

View these new videos, along with additional resources, on the Washington State resource page of the Implement ERPO website.
