Bloomberg Fellow Spotlight - Martin Bartness

December 18, 2020

Bloomberg Fellow Martin Bartness is a major within the Baltimore Police Department; he currently serves as the commander of the Education and Training Division, where he is responsible for the development and delivery of all recruit training and continuing education. This fall, his efforts were lauded by the Baltimore Consent Decree Monitoring Team’s First Comprehensive Re-assessment, an evaluation of the police department’s progress in addressing serious systemic issues and improving relations between law enforcement and the citizens of Baltimore over the past two years. The re-assessment specifically cited the significant improvements in training and behavioral health crisis response, two areas overseen by Major Bartness.

Additionally, Major Bartness was featured in an interview with associate professor Shannon Frattaroli in the ERPO Teach-Out that launched in October. (The course remains open for enrollment.) And in January, he will join the board of directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities Maryland, which serves seriously ill children and their families.
