Addiction & Overdose

Allies in Blue: Policing Informed by Public Health

December 11, 2018

On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

At the Summit, Maria Hinojosa, President & CEO of Futuro Media Group and Anchor & Executive Producer of Latino USA moderated a conversation about the role of law enforcement in advancing public health strategies to address the opioid epidemic. Panelists included Burlington, Vermont Chie of Police Brandon del Pozo, Arlington, Massachusetts Chief of Police Fred Ryan, and Grace Keller, Program Coordinator at Howard Center Safe Recovery in Burlington.
