Galvanizing local uptake of the US National Plan to End Gender-Based Violence
The Plan
In 2023, The US released its first National Plan to End Gender-Based Violence, developed by the White House Gender Policy Council with extensive survivor and advocate input. The Plan outlines seven evidence-based priority areas for prevention and response.
Changing federal priorities paused the Plan’s roll out and dissemination; however, its recommendations remain highly relevant and provide coordinated direction for state and local entities to end gender-based violence.
Implementation
Recently, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Women’s Health and Gender Equity collaborated to convene practitioners, researchers, advocates, and policy leaders to strategize on local implementation of the Plan. This effort, led by Michele Decker, ScD, MPH, Bloomberg Professor of American Health, also drew insights from other collaborators including UN Women, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Bank.
These convenings identified key gaps and opportunities for action to continue local implementation of the Plan, and led to the creation of resources and tools to help communities advance gender-based violence prevention and response including:
