On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

At the Summit, Leana Wen, President of Planned Parenthood, moderated a panel on challenging the healthcare system to advance health and health equity.  Panelist included Kara Odom Walker, Secretary of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, Hillary Kunins, Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Carnell Cooper, Founder of the Shock Trauma Violence Intervention Program at the University of Maryland.

The 2018 Summit theme was From Local Action to National Impact: Overcoming Challenges and Improving Health. Read more about the Summit here.
