On November 29 and 30, 2018, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies convened the inaugural Bloomberg American Health Summit in Washington D.C.

The Summit brought together innovators, experts, practitioners and policymakers from around the country, to focus on ways to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence.

The U.S. opioid problem has become an epidemic, with a death rate that has more than doubled since 2000.  The following video, featured at the summit, focuses on addiction and overdose, addressing 5 Actions We Can Take in 5 Years to Address the Opioids Crisis.

The 2018 Summit theme was From Local Action to National Impact: Overcoming Challenges and Improving Health. Read more about the Summit here.
